Verstappen Expects the Unexpected
Max Verstappen believes Formula 1's first race at Madring could produce some much-needed chaos, as teams prepare to tackle the new Madrid circuit with almost no real-world experience.
“Maybe, first race here, we can have a bit of chaos,” Verstappen said ahead of the Spanish GP, admitting some luck could be required for Red Bull to challenge for victory.
New track. Close walls. Unknown conditions. Anything can happen.
Madring Could Punish Mistakes
The 5.416km Madring circuit features 22 corners, combining street sections with purpose-built track and the spectacular banked La Monumental.
Verstappen described the circuit as potentially a “car killer”, stressing that staying away from the barriers and quickly building confidence will be crucial.
With most drivers relying heavily on simulator preparation, Friday practice will provide the first true indication of who has mastered Madrid.
Chaos Could Give Red Bull an Opportunity
Red Bull is still chasing its first victory of the 2026 season, but Verstappen believes the unpredictable nature of Madring could create an opportunity.
His immediate target is getting the car into a position where he can fight for another podium, after finishing third at Monza last weekend.
