Acosta Finally Wins With KTM
Pedro Acosta's maiden MotoGP victory at the Austrian Grand Prix has added a fascinating twist to his upcoming move from KTM to Ducati.
The 22-year-old delivered KTM its first MotoGP Grand Prix victory since 2022, passing Jorge Martin on Lap 9 before controlling the race at the Red Bull Ring.
The breakthrough came after 15 previous MotoGP podiums without a victory.
KTM finally gave Acosta a winning bike — just months before losing him.
Why Is Acosta Still Leaving?
Acosta has already confirmed he will leave KTM and join the factory Ducati squad alongside Marc Márquez in 2027.
KTM CEO Gottfried Neumeister revealed that the decision wasn't simply about money or doubts over KTM's new 850cc bike.
According to Neumeister, Acosta explained that he wanted the opportunity to race Márquez on equal machinery and find out who was stronger.
That makes his Ducati switch as much about competition as equipment.
KTM's Progress Creates a What-If
Austria demonstrated exactly why Acosta's departure could become painful for KTM.
After struggling earlier in the season, the RC16 has shown significant progress, while Acosta has scored 71 points across Aragón, Misano and Austria — second only to Márquez's 94 over that stretch.
His Austrian victory also moved him to fourth in the championship, 72 points behind leader Jorge Martin with seven scheduled rounds remaining.
Ducati Move Sets Up Márquez Showdown
