Viñales Set for MotoGP Comeback

Maverick Viñales has been confirmed to return to MotoGP action at the 2026 Japanese Grand Prix, rejoining Red Bull KTM Tech3 at Mobility Resort Motegi.

The Spaniard has been sidelined while recovering from the shoulder injury he sustained earlier in the season, forcing him to miss multiple races as he focused on rehabilitation. His return gives Tech3 its regular rider back for the crucial Asian phase of the championship.

Recovery complete. Viñales is heading back to the grid.

Motegi Will Be a Physical Test

Returning at Motegi will not be straightforward.

The Japanese circuit is famous for its heavy braking zones and repeated acceleration, making it one of the more physically demanding tracks for a rider recovering from an upper-body injury.

Viñales will therefore use Friday practice to evaluate his fitness and rebuild confidence aboard the KTM RC16 before pushing towards qualifying and the Sprint.

The objective will be to complete the weekend comfortably while rediscovering race rhythm after his absence.

KTM Arrives With Growing Momentum

Viñales' comeback also comes at an encouraging moment for KTM.

Pedro Acosta claimed his maiden MotoGP victory at the Austrian Grand Prix, ending KTM's long wait for a premier-class win and demonstrating the improving potential of the RC16.

That progress gives Viñales a stronger platform for his return as KTM continues developing its current bike while simultaneously preparing for MotoGP's major 850cc regulation reset in 2027.
