MotoGP Completes 2027 Grid With Major Honda Announcements

MotoGP has officially confirmed its complete 22-rider grid for the 2027 season, with Honda delivering the final major announcements ahead of the championship's new 850cc era.

On 20 October 2026, Honda Racing Corporation confirmed that Brazilian rider Diogo Moreira will join Fabio Quartararo at the factory Honda HRC team, while highly rated Moto2 talent David Alonso will make his premier-class debut with LCR Honda.

The announcement completes one of the biggest rider-market reshuffles in recent MotoGP history, featuring major transfers, five rookies and several established race winners departing the championship.

With completely new technical regulations arriving in 2027, manufacturers are preparing for a fresh competitive era.

Diogo Moreira Earns Factory Honda Promotion

One of the biggest surprises is Honda's decision to promote Diogo Moreira to its factory team after just one season in MotoGP.

The Brazilian joined LCR Honda for 2026 and has impressed with his development throughout his rookie campaign.

Moreira scored points in 14 of the opening 17 Grands Prix and achieved a second-place finish in the Japanese Grand Prix Sprint at Motegi.

His performances convinced Honda to reward him with a factory seat alongside 2021 MotoGP World Champion Fabio Quartararo, who joins from Yamaha.

The new partnership combines Quartararo's experience and proven race-winning ability with Moreira's emerging potential.

Meanwhile, David Alonso will replace Moreira at LCR Honda, partnering experienced French rider Johann Zarco.

The Colombian-Spanish rider is among the most promising talents progressing from Moto2 and will be one of five newcomers on the 2027 grid.

Ducati, Aprilia and Yamaha Prepare Major Changes

Honda is not the only manufacturer making significant changes.

Ducati will pair Marc Márquez with Pedro Acosta, creating one of the most anticipated combinations on the grid.

Acosta replaces Francesco Bagnaia, who moves to Aprilia Racing alongside Marco Bezzecchi on a four-year agreement.

Meanwhile, Yamaha has secured Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura for its factory team, replacing Quartararo and Alex Rins.

KTM will field Alex Márquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio, while Luca Marini moves to Tech3 alongside Australian rookie Senna Agius.

The changes will create new rivalries and potentially reshape the competitive order.

Five Rookies Join MotoGP as Established Riders Depart

The 2027 season will also feature five riders making their full-time MotoGP debuts:

  • David Alonso — LCR Honda
  • Dani Holgado — Gresini Ducati
  • Nicolò Bulega — VR46 Ducati
  • Izan Guevara — Pramac Yamaha
  • Senna Agius — Tech3 KTM

Bulega arrives from World Superbike, while the other four step up from Moto2.

Their arrival means several experienced riders will leave the premier class, including Jack Miller, Brad Binder, Alex Rins, Franco Morbidelli and Maverick Viñales.

The significant turnover reflects a new generation of riders entering MotoGP.

New 850cc Regulations Could Reset the Competitive Order

The 2027 season will introduce one of MotoGP's biggest technical overhauls in years.

Engine capacity will decrease from 1000cc to 850cc, while Pirelli will replace Michelin as the championship's official tyre supplier.

Ride-height devices will be banned, and aerodynamic restrictions will be tightened.

These changes could significantly influence motorcycle performance and create opportunities for manufacturers to close the gap to their rivals.

For Honda, the new regulations offer an important opportunity to rebuild its competitiveness with Quartararo and Moreira leading its factory effort.
