Sepang Gets Four Days of MotoGP Action

The 2027 MotoGP pre-season testing schedule is officially confirmed, and Malaysia will play a major role.

Petronas Sepang International Circuit will host four consecutive days of MotoGP running, beginning with the Shakedown Test on January 29–30, followed immediately by the full-grid Sepang Test on January 31 and February 1.

That makes Sepang one of the most important development battlegrounds before MotoGP's radical new era begins.


The December Valencia Test will provide the first look at the new rider line-ups on the all-new 850cc MotoGP machinery. After Sepang, teams have another two-day test at Buriram before returning to the same circuit for the season-opening Thai Grand Prix.

Why Sepang Matters More in 2027

The significance goes far beyond normal pre-season preparation.

2027 is MotoGP's major technical reset.

New 850cc engines and a new generation of machinery mean manufacturers will arrive in Malaysia with an enormous development workload. Sepang's long straights, heavy braking zones, fast corners and demanding heat make it an ideal proving ground.

Four consecutive days also give manufacturers a crucial window to collect data before heading to Thailand.

Malaysia's MotoGP Role Keeps Growing

Sepang's testing role comes alongside another major commitment to Malaysian motorcycle racing.

MotoGP has already confirmed that the Malaysian Grand Prix will remain at Sepang from 2027 through 2031 under a new five-year agreement.

Malaysia therefore enters MotoGP's new era with both an important pre-season testing programme and a long-term place on the Grand Prix calendar.
